Club History

Longwood football club was founded in 1888, and its first match was against a joint castle creek and euroa football team at longwood in may of that year. Longwood joined the kyabram dfl in 2010 after the benalla & district football league disbanded at the end of 2009

A new beginning (2010)

The Longwood Football Netball Club, also known as the Redlegs, joined the Kyabram District League in 2010 following the dissolution of the Benalla District Football Netball League. This marks the beginning of a brand-new age full with possibilities and difficulties.

Challenges and Comeback (2014–2015)

Since 2014, the team has been dealing with serious issues like low player availability and financial difficulties. To address these issues, the formation of an Under 18 football squad was a crucial first step. The club started to improve matters in 2015 with the help of a dedicated committee and newly appointed president Mark Goodall. One of the most important things that stabilized the club's predicament was the hiring of Matthew Sacco as the senior football coach.

Growth and Stabilization (2016–2018)

Nick Brown led Longwood as senior coach from 2016 to 2018, bringing about good adjustments. The club started a phase of stabilization and growth by adding Under 15's and Under 17's teams to its netball division and working hard to pay off its debt.

Leadership (2019–2022)

When Michael Galvin took over as senior coach in 2019, he helped the team overcome the COVID-19 pandemic's obstacles and promote unity. The team was able to pay off its debts under his leadership and kept expanding in both netball and football. With Megan Pellegrino taking over as head coach, the netball team had newfound success.

New Direction (2022)

With an eye towards bolstering its football department, the club named Jordan Formosa senior coach in 2022. With the senior team winning seven games in 2023, it was the club's most successful season on the pitch thanks to his professional and strict coaching approach.
